TEXTTEXTJust wanted to give a shout out to those b-more cats making their present felt in this industry business! Shouts out to COMP who signed to Def Jam Shouts out to my nephew Young Vega who officially signed with So so Jef The one thing I've notice with artist from B-more is their best chances to getting a record deal seems to happen when they leave B-more. My nephew went to live in Atlanta, Georgia did some battles down there and got picked up by So so Jef reps looking for new talent. And now he's living phat in Atl. But we should always want to help our own when they get these deals because when we do doors can be opened for those looking to get their name in bigger venues! So lets start showing support to our youth and show them that B-more is not a Haters' City but we really do look out for our own! KCloke spreading tha word!

I concur... cats from B-More doin' their thing in the industry could only open the door for B-More to do more. I mean, hey- who woulda thought New Orleans or a got-damn St. Louis woulda gotten as big as they have? I think that in due time, it will happen...

Yo, is Busy Bee from New York. I heard he lives in the Baltimore area? Also, who was the first rapper out of baltimore back in the days and how long hip hop been in baltimore. One!

Yep- Busy is a legend in the rap game- check him on the DVD "Beef" part 1, where he had the infamous battle with Kool Moe Dee. Last time I talked to him he was living on Calvert Street and hanging out at the Belvedere.
I dunno who the first group to jump off in Baltimore. Probabably one of the first to go national was Baltimores own Kevin Lyles and the Numarx, with "Girl You Know Its True", which was remade by Milli Vanilli. But back in the day there was groups like Triple Threat, Charm City Crew, Hodgi Rock, Pen Pals (whattup Faceman!), Numarx (Kaboom was an original member), Runaway Slaves(signed but never released- My man Jamar(Sparrow the Movement) and Shawn Caesar(Unruly) were members, 3FP(Me, Sonny Brown(then L Money) and DJ Dexx, with "Industry Pimp" aka Nigil as a backup dancer), and a gang of other groups all heard on WEAA. WEAA had a "make it or break it" for Rap groups in the evening with Chuck Maxx and Frank Ski. Baltimore has always had a lotta Hip Hop here. Breakdancing crews were real strong back then also. We would go to the Oak Tree, now the Gold Club, on Sundays and have emcee and breakdance battes.

Also Van Silk, the FIRST Hip Hop promoter, is here in Baltimore. Check him at this interview www.jayquan.com/vanjay.htm. He married the original Spinderella of Salt and Pepa, and he is at the flea market at Patapsco often with mix CD's. Speaking of Salt and Pepa, Pepa owns a club here in Baltimore on Harford road. ("Peps" I think?)

Woooow! That's history y'all could have had hip hop on lock if club music came out but y'all are re-surfacing back on the scene. Also, I did'nt know that the DC go-go group Trouble Funk was on Suger hill Records. Peace!

Yo- LB got the history on the whole shit. I know VanSilk from the spot at the Flea Mkt., in fact he was just talkin' the other day about the VH1 Hip-hop Honors thing and how a few people have issues with the Sugarhill Gang thing. For those who don't know, that was a put-together group who had never done as much as a performance together before that record.
Because of this, most hip-hop groups of the time felt slighted (particularly Grandmaster Caz of the Cold Crush Brothers who wrote a portion of the record and got kinda suckered out of his lyrics by a member of the Gang who wasn't even an MC before the record). Silk still knows almost everyone from back then, so he was speakin' about how many of them feel slighted about not being honored the same way...

Congrats to all of the Baltimore MCs like Comp, Young Vega. Also, I have a question on Young Vega how long he been rhyming and did he do alot of shows in the baltimore area. Plus, did he had any mixtapes or independent albums because I've never really heard of him I guess I'm from the DC area? One
